Bolt is preparing to bring its autonomous driving program to European roads. The company announced on Wednesday that this program will start in Madrid in 2027, while Germany and France have identified themselves as key markets for future deployments. The move comes just one day after Google announced the deployment of its first autonomous Waymo taxis in the capital of Spain. Uber received permission from the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) for self-driving cars in Spain in September and plans to operate in Madrid by the end of this year. Bolt, which has Nvidia’s support for this plan, expects the Madrid program to start with Lucid vehicles. The Madrid Community is driving a structured framework for autonomous commercial mobility, in coordination with national authorities. Germany will also be a priority in the next phase, with cities that have already established clear goals in autonomous mobility,» points out Jevgeni Kabanov, President and Head of Autonomous Driving at Bolt. The program will also lay the groundwork for deploying at least 25,000 Lucid vehicles. These cars will be equipped with the Nvidia Hyperion autonomous driving software and prepared for level 4. The program is a key part of Bolt’s broader plan to deploy 100,000 autonomous vehicles in Europe and the UNECE region by 2035. In this regard, Bolt notes that, alongside Nvidia and Lucid, it is integrating a global technological supply chain into a single product for European cities.
